People who know me know that I am a comic book geek, and I just can’t get enough of pop art. There are tons of places to find this kind of material, but I just recently discovered the following art blogs. Check them out. You might find your favorite new artist.
Comic Twart
Yeah, it’s kind of a weird name, but these guys are all really talented. They take an old comic book or pulp novel character and create variations on their designs according to each artist’s taste.
This week, they’re working on Archie, and you can see that they regularly practice a good sense of humor. Click over to see Archie not only as a werewolf, but also as the cool guy who impregnated Betty and Veronica. That sly dog. Very fun and often funny ongoing art collection.
Eric Canete
I’m not sure how much more this guy is going to be posting sketches, but his collection is definitely worth a look. This guy has done some amazing work including the animation for Aeon Flux, Men in Black, Dark Fury, and Justice League Unlimited. This guy is in a league of his own.
This image struck me for its simplicity compared to the other works on his blog. But you can see the level of detail he puts into each character design.
Sketch Paddys
They describe their site as “the weekly sketch blog of aspiring, soon-to-be battle-hardened, comics artists Cormac Hughes, Robert Carey and Ciarán Finnegan.” No jokes here. These pictures aren’t meant to be funny. These guys mean business.
It was tough to pick out the image to post here, but I had to go with The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly sketch. I mean, how can you resist?
