Later Night Ramblings

Keeping it quick this week.

HitGirl

I saw KickAss on DVD last weekend, and I must admit that I was more impressed than I thought I would be. It was a combination of the some of the serious themes of Watchmen with the wacky violence of Kill Bill, and Hit Girl is probably the coolest character I’ve seen in a while. Yes, it is reprehensible to have a young girl saying those kinds of things and killing people in a movie, and I wouldn’t want my kids to do that kind of movie, BUT it was still pretty freakin’ awesome onscreen. Still, it’s a movie with some very real flaws, but overall it was a lot of fun.

Apparently, Mark Millar (author of KickAss and Wanted) has another movie in the Hollywood machine, so keep an eye out for “Nemesis” with Tony Scott directing.

One other bit of comic news… one of my reviews for the comic website Project Fanboy was posted over on the publisher’s website:Radical Comics. Check them out!

Finally, I have a real love for the Irish rock sound, and I’m not talking about U2 (although they are pretty awesome). There a few bands that I’ve heard over the years that can combine that old style Irish music with banjos and sundry other stringed instruments with the stylings of modern rock. And though I end up quickly tiring of an entire album in this style, I absolutely love it in small amounts. I also feel the same about reggae, but that’s another topic all together. But for this week, check out “Little Lion” by Mumford & Sons.
